Sketches for the Lodge Furnishings

Handwritten explanations by Elisabeth Vreede of the sketches (translated from Dutch) 1All authentic information from Rudolf Steiner that has been preserved is reproduced below. The sketch on page 288 of the furnishings of the temple for the first and second degree and the sketches on pages 289 to 296 are facsimile reproductions of the sketches made by Elisabeth Vreede from the information provided by Rudolf Steiner for individual objects. On page 310, one of the sword symbols is reproduced in its natural size, as used during the initiation into the first degree (see pages 183 and 188). Pages 311 and 312 show sketches by Rudolf Steiner for an incense burner and page 313 shows its design.
A.d.O. [Altar of the East]
Cross with crown of thorns (sketch) in Catholic shops. The wreath [of roses?] must be hanging on a nail inside the altar, ready for use. The cross must be large enough to leave room for the Holy of Holies [chalice]. Diameter of the wreath 45 cm. For the Holy of Holies: hammer (see vestments).

Bible open at John chap. XII / Triangular trowel (made of gilded sheet metal) / Shape of the trowel is exactly the same as the real mason has it. / Small candlestick. / Matches! / Light scissors in front of the candle.
P = Before the altar, a small elevation (P) on which the master stands.
S. Above the altar, the sun: blue background (stronger ribbed fabric, sun made of light-yellow-brown cloth, {triangle] as curtain decoration)
L = candlestick (at each altar. See sketch at the east end) Before the Holy of Holies: a tray with a high rim. May have partitions inside, but not necessary.
A piece of felt on the altar. The rest is the doctor's responsibility.

Handschriftliche Erklärungen von Elisabeth Vreede zu den Skizzen (aus dem Holländischen übersetzt) 1Im Folgenden sind alle erhalten gebliebenen authentischen Angaben Rudolf Steiners wiedergegeben. Die Skizze auf Seite 300 von der Einrichtung des Tempels für den ersten und zweiten Grad und die Skizzen auf Seite 302 bis 309 sind Faksimilewiedergaben der von Elisabeth Vreede nach den Angaben Rudolf Steiners gefertigten Skizzen für einzelne Gegenstände. Auf Seite 310 ist eines der Schwertsymbole in natürlicher Größe wiedergegeben, wie sie bei der Aufnahme in den ersten Grad verwendet wurden (vgl. hierzu Seite 183 und 188). Seite 311 und 312 geben Skizzen Rudolf Steiners für ein Weihrauchgefäß und Seite 313 dessen Ausführung wieder.
A.d.O. [Altar des Ostens]
Kreuz mit der Dornenkrone (Skizze) in katholischen Läden. Der Kranz [aus Rosen?] muß innerhalb des Altars an einem Nagel bereithängen. Das Kreuz muß so groß sein, daß Platz übrig bleibt für das Allerheiligste [Kelch]. Durchmesser des Kranzes 45 cm. Beim Allerheiligsten: Hammer (siehe Westen).

Bibel bei Johannes Kap. XII aufgeschlagen / Darauf Dreieck und Kelle ineinandergesteckt / (aus Blech, vergoldet) Zeichnung siehe bei Süden (Kelle) / Form der Kelle genau so wie der echte Maurer sie hat. / Kleine Leuchter. / Zündhölzer! / Lichtschere vor der Kerze.
P = Vor dem Altar eine kleine Erhöhung (P) worauf der Meister steht
S. Über dem Altar die Sonne: blauer Grund (stärker gerippter Stoff, Sonne aus hell-gelbbraunem Tuch, {triangle] Als Vorhangverzierung)
L = Leuchter (bei jedem Altar. Siehe Skizze bei Osten) Vor dem Allerheiligsten: ein Tablett / mit hohem Rand. Kann innen Trenn- / wändchen haben, aber nicht notwendig.
Auf dem Altar ein Stück Filz. Das übrige besorgt der Doktor.

Rauchfaß, normal, aus der Kirche. / Weihrauchgefäß, irgendein altes Ding, Form gleichgültig / Winkelmaß

2. Zirkel. Metermaß, beliebige Größe / Totenkopf (Gipsabdruck)
Säulen nach Belieben. Dunkelblau und Ziegelrot / Auf den zwei Säulen: ein behauener und ein unbehauener kubusförmiger Stein
